Find Out About the Zone Diet

February 6th, 2009

The zone diet is considered a fad diet created by a biochemist named Barry Sears.  It’s planned as a permanent diet to be eaten throughout a person’s life. The diet relies on balancing hormones, but is still a low carbohydrate diet even if less restrictive than diets like Atkins.

The basis of the zone diet is a ratio of calories from carbohydrates, proteins, and fats all of 40 to 30 to 30. Television studies have concluded that the diet can work. They also concluded that the zone diet can help people gain muscle in addition to losing weight. In addition, people found the zone diet the easiest to maintain of all the low carb diets.

The result of the zone diet and its hormone balance is the body releasing anti-inflammatory chemicals like those found in aspirin, but without side effects.  In addition, claims Sears, the natural anti-inflammatories help with heart health. Another benefit of the zone diet is that once the human body is in this hormonal balance it becomes more efficient and stops [...]

Fad Diets And Weight loss

February 8th, 2009

Fad diets are diets designed to be used for a small amount of time. Another popular culture meaning for the term is a diet that becomes wildly popular for a period of a few months to a few years, and then fades into obscurity. Some of these fad diets include the cabbage soup diet, the Atkins diet, and the cookie diet.

The Cabbage Soup Diet Scam

February 9th, 2009

It’s very easy to describe the cabbage soup diet – FAKE.  There’s really no need for further explanation. But for those who insist here is more.

The inventor of the cabbage soup diet isn’t known. Like a chain letter or junk e-mail it was sent from fax machines to fax machine in the early 80s. There were many names for the diet, sometimes a well-known institution such as St. Jude’s diet. Needless to say, the diet has no relation to any of the institutions, nations, or people used in these names.

Most people on the cabbage soup diet drink nothing but water or unsweetened fruit juice.  In general this is the diet.

The cabbage soup diet claims that people can lose 10 pounds in only one week.  While it may be possible, most of that weight will be water weight. A week is simply too short a time in which to lose 10 pounds of fat. But given a week the cabbage soup diet could make someone seriously ill from malnutrition.

Find Out About the Zone Diet

February 9th, 2009

A man named Barry Sears created the fad diet called the Zone diet.  Sears’ plan was that people could eat this diet for the long term, thus making it a lifestyle. The diet relies on balancing hormones, but is still a low carbohydrate diet even if less restrictive than diets like Atkins.

The basis of the zone diet is a ratio of calories from carbohydrates, proteins, and fats all of 40 to 30 to 30. A few nonscientific studies performed for television showed the diet can be effective. Some of the studies even showed an increase in muscle mass while on the zone diet. People included in the studies said it was very easy to stick to the zone diet as compared to other low carbohydrate diets.

The zone diet creates a perfect balance of insulin and glucagen which causes the body to release chemicals similar in effect to those found in aspirin.  Sears also pointed to heart health as a side benefit of anti-inflammatory chemicals. The zone diet also creates a state in which the body stops storing fat. [...]

3 Simple Tips For Choosing The Best Crash Diet Plans

July 22nd, 2009

As a personal trainer, inevitably my clients want to know the best crash diet plans. Usually, they have an event such as a class reunion, or a wedding to attend, and they want to quickly shed pounds. They know that generally I don't favor crash diets, however when they insist, I give them these 3 tips for choosing a crash diet.

The best crash diet plans work without the use of diet pills. Diet pills have multiple side effects that make them potentially dangerous. Even diet pills that contain natural substances such as Ephedra should be avoided. Side sffects from diet pills include excessive sweating, nervousness, irritability, and dry mouth. A natural appetite supressant such as Hoodia can be effective when taken in moderation.

The large amount of water also keeps the urine from becoming too concentrated, which is a problem with crash diets that are potentially dangerous. Always consult with your physician before starting any diet.
